I was so proud and thoughtless. And he was in love.
I’d read him passages from my favorite books and talk to him about the fatality of loving a wild thing. I was distant and then smothering. I was aloof and then I was needy. I was demanding and selfish, argumentative and critical. The last time I saw him, he held my face and told me I was a terrible person.

If you are a Christian, then someone who isn’t just cannot love you in return no matter how much you care for them…. They might be attracted to you, interested in you, understanding towards you, etc… but they cannot love you. They cannot access or understand the most central aspect of your identity… union with Christ.
